Shorthorn Youth is a member based, member run program closely linked to Shorthorn Beef. The program is designed to promote involvement of young enthusiastic people in agriculture and specifically the beef seed stock industry.

Shorthorn Youth is proud of their direction and foresight by educating members and fellow participants about the importance of commercial beef production and sustainability in agriculture. This aspect, along with ‘showmanship’ gives members and school students many opportunities to learn about livestock exhibition and further their development and understanding of the beef industry and agriculture in general. This has led to many schools establishing their own shorthorn programs on the back of support given by breeders in developing the breed through the youth. This has enabled the Shorthorn Youth to be widely known and respected throughout Australia.

Shorthorn Youth run and promote many activities to foster the development of their youth such as Judging Days, Personal Development Days, Leadership Clinics as well as our major event, The Shorthorn Youth Expo. This is paired with ‘showmanship skills’ and giving members and schools the opportunity

The Shorthorn Youth Expo is an annual 3 day event held over the long weekend in October. The expo gives the opportunity for members to come together to celebrate the development of the Shorthorn Breed as well as develop relationships that stay with them for the rest of their lives. The highlight of the Expo is the Shorthorn Youth Fundraising Dinner, held on the Sunday Night of the Expo, as well as the donation of two elite stud females from Australia’s best and highest performing shorthorn studs.

The Shorthorn Youth program has become renowned for producing some of Australia’s most influential people in the Agricultural industry. The program instills a real passion within its members to achieve success through dedication and commitment to achieving individual and team environments.
